Bryan heard the water start in Charlie’s shower and turned back to face the kitchen. It had taken some convincing for Charlie to go clean up after Bryan’s little announcement, but he’d gone more for his benefit than his mate’s. He needed a minute to steady his nerves for the conversation that was coming. Not to mention his body.

He braced his hands on the counter and blew out a long breath. Watching Charlie strip off his shirt a moment ago had nearly made Bryan’s wolf howl at the rafters. The flesh had shimmered with sweat from Charlie’s run, and his mate’s muscles stood out in relief from the exertion. Charlie’s scent had filled the air, and Bryan had found it difficult to catch his breath. Controlling his body’s response had been impossible. Judging by how wide Charlie’s eyes had got, he’d caught sight of Bryan’s hard cock trapped within his jeans. Bryan wasn’t as embarrassed about the hard-on as he could have been since he’d seen a definite gleam in Charlie’s eyes. The trust Charlie had shown Bryan with allowing him unrestricted access to his sanctuary made him feel twice as guilty for the deception he was perpetrating. Tonight, however, that would come to an end and maybe, if he was lucky enough to have Charlie forgive him, they would start a whole new chapter of their lives. Charlie’s scent filled the room and he closed his eyes on a large inhale to savour the rich flavour.

“All right, start talking.” Bryan turned and watched Charlie walk towards him, still buttoning his jeans and leaving wet footprints on the hardwood floors behind him.

“That had to be the shortest shower in history.”

Charlie glared at Bryan and crossed his arms. “What? You expected me to take a luxurious soak after your comment? You’re lucky I bothered at all. Now sit your ass down on that sofa and tell me exactly what’s going on.”

Bryan walked over to where Charlie stood then put his hands on his mate’s shoulders. There was more evidence of Charlie’s haste in dressing when Bryan’s fingers touched warm, damp material. “I need you to know that even if what I’m about to tell you makes you so angry you cut me out of your life again, it won’t change how I feel. I’ll always be here for you.”

“But what you implied before. Inhuman speed. That’s not a bad thing. Right?” Charlie looked around the living room before meeting Bryan’s gaze again. “I never really wanted to cut you out, Bry.
